Mullein Leaf carries quite an interesting magical background, it is believed that placing this herb in your shoe will help keep a cold away, it is often carried in ones pocket to attract a loved one to you, if it is stuffed in a small pillow underneath your main pillow while sleeping it keeps nightmares away.
In India mullein is regarded as the best and most potent safeguard against evil spirits and because of this people hang it above their doorways and windows as well as being carried on the person in sachets.
Roman soldiers, among other cultures, used mullein stalks dipped in grease or wax as torches for illumination. At one time it was believed witches and magicians used oil lamps to illuminate their spells and rites, and the downy leaves and stems of mullein often provided the wicks.
A yellow dye can be made from the mullein flowers by boiling the flowers in water.
