Faerie Cakes!

Faerie Cakes!

5th Dec 2018

Our Faerie cakes are fresh from the oven and smell divine! In days gone by faerie cakes where baked for their magical properties, it was believed you would see the faerie folk and that they worked as a fertility charm!  Associated holidays: Yule, Esbat Dinners

What You Need: 1 stick butter, 2/3 cups sugar, 2 eggs beaten, 1/2 tsp vanilla extract, grated rind from one orange, 3/4 tsp baking powder, 1 1/4 cups flour, 1 tbsp milk, 1/3 cup raisins

Sugar Icing: 2 cups powdered sugar and 2 tbsp water that's boiling. (photo shown without the icing) to make your icing mix the powdered sugar and water together.

Get the magic going!  Cream butter and sugar together until its light and fluffy. Then, beat in the eggs, vanilla and orange rind.  Sieve your baking powder and flour together and then add it to your butter mix.  Add a little bit of milk to create a batter which is dropping consistency. (we actually added about 5 tbsp to get a dropping consistency, this is where you use your magic, bit by bit add until you get it).  Gently fold in the raisins and then drop your mixture into muffin cups, make sure you grease them well before adding your mixture.

Bake at 375 degrees for 25 minutes (check them after 20 minutes) Drizzle on your icing once cooled and enjoy!

We would love to see you faerie cake pics! Feel free to send them to us on our Facebook page!
