Jet

Jet - a stone with a long interesting history, although not actually a crystal but rather compressed lignite (coal) created from wood and other sea-water organic material over many many years. When you use or carry your Jet you may be interested to hear of it's other uses throughout history! 

~The Roman historian Pliny the Elder listed numerous medicinal uses including burning jet to cure hysteria, mixed with wine it was believed to cure toothaches.
~Jet ornaments have been found in paleolithic caves in Switzerland and France and also ancient ruins of Pueblo Indians.
~ The early Catholic church use Jet as a material in crosses and rosaries - it was thought that Jet would drive away troubled dreams and hallucinations.
~ Saint Hilda (England 654-680) used jet in her rosary which was believed to be effective against dark spirits. The "stone" was mined in a location known as Whitby, her abbey later became known as Whitby Abbey. 
~ It carries the folk name of "witches amber"
